Messenger is no blogging rookie. He did it for quite a while in Columbia while working at the Tribune there. That seems to be why the Snooze-Loser hired him over at least one much more qualified traditional candidate.

Anom:

you make a very valid point in this; Tony Messenger is a pro at blogging. He is not a rookie. I was not going to initially allow Ozarks Messenger to qualify for the Rookie Award but after much discussion with a few fellow bloggers, I changed my mind. The award is for "Rookie Blog of the Year". This blog was created in 2006. Even though Tony did have previous blogs, this did meet the definition of a rookie blog. This is similar to Japanese baseball players having rookie status even though they have played for several years in the Japanese pro baseball league. It was a judgment call to allow this blog entry into the Rookie category. It is one that I stand by.

As for the rest of your comments, I completely disagree with you. I believe that Tony Messenger has been a fine Editorial Page Editor. He brought experience with him. I think that the News-Leader is much better with him on their staff. I do not always agree with Tony but I do respect him and what he brings to the newspaper.

I think the KY3 Blog and David Catanese have by far done the best...anytime I need any news about politics, I go right to his blog...he should win all four categories he is nominated in.

Makes you realize what a special community everyone has built up. Very proud to be a small voice amongst this group.

How about a sports category? A great new blog & local blog that got national attention is myplayoffbeard.com

I agree. I think it would be great to see a category for area sports blogs. I know a few who run those types of blogs from the letsgobears.com forums.

Btw, thanks for the nomination. I am shocked to say the least. Mind you I dont know exactly what the realistic chances are of winning, but hey, I appreciate the recognition.

Dear Anom (time 11:47):

When I want political news, I turn to David's blog also. Nicely stated.

Zach,

Right on. We are the few, the proud, the geeky bloggers. Power to the citizen press!

Anom (Time 12:59 PM),

A sports category is a great idea for next year's awards. I will keep that in mind.

I left comments on myplayoffbeard.com to find out more about him. Thanks for the link.

Paul,

Our buddy "Jack" was the first to nominate you. Your blog is very deserving. I get my movie reviews and preview from your blog. You do have a good shot at winning. I hope you will come out to our blogger meetings including the first week on Feb for the award ceremony.
